BVVA Update: September 20, 2021

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Between October 5th and October 7th, all* third and fourth-grade students will be administered the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). This test is one of the identifiers used to qualify students for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) services in the Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District. For more information regarding GATE identification and access to sample CogAT items, please visit the GATE pages on the district website.

*PLEASE NOTE: If your student is in 4th grade has ALREADY been GATE identified, you should disregard this letter. Your student’s status has NOT changed. If you have ANY questions regarding your student’s status, please don’t hesitate to contact the district GATE office at 714-985-8675.

Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be testing in person on the dates below. Students must come to BVVA all three days to complete the assessment, as different parts are tested each day.

October 5th, 2021 from 9:00 am - 10:30am or from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

October 6th, 2021 from 9:00 am -10:30 am or from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

October 7th, 2021 from 9:00 am -10:30 am or from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Please fill out this Google Form to request your preferred times on these dates.

Your child’s CogAT scores will be accessible in AERIES following our district testing window. You will be emailed when these scores are available along with directions on how to access them. Please make sure your email address is up to date in AERIES to ensure you receive this notice.

To help your child do his or her best on these tests, be sure that he or she receives adequate sleep the night before testing. Allow enough time in the mornings when tests will be given for your child to eat breakfast without being rushed. Show interest, but do not place too much emphasis on this test; an anxious child will not give his or her best performance. If your child is ill, please do not send him or her to school. Make-up days are built into the testing schedule. Please contact the GATE office at (714) 985-8675 if you have any questions

Entre el 5 de octubre y 7 de octubre, a todos los estudiantes de tercer y cuarto grado se les administrará la Prueba de Habilidades Cognitivas (CogAT). Esta prueba es uno de los identificadores que se utilizan para calificar a los estudiantes para los servicios de Educación para Dotados y Talentosos (GATE) en el Distrito Escolar Unificado Placentia-Yorba Linda. *TENGA EN CUENTA: Si su estudiante está en 4to grado y YA ha sido identificado como GATE, debe ignorar esta carta. El estatus del estudiante no ha cambiado. Si tiene alguna pregunta sobre el estatus del estudiante, no dude en comunicarse al distrito a la oficina de GATE al 714-985-8675

Los puntajes CogAT de su hijo estarán disponibles en AERIES después de nuestra ventana de evaluación del distrito. Se le enviará un correo electrónico cuando estos puntajes estén disponibles junto con instrucciones sobre cómo acceder a ellos. Asegúrese de que su dirección de correo electrónico esté actualizada en AERIES para asegurarse de recibir este aviso.

Para ayudar a su hijo a hacer su mejor esfuerzo en estas pruebas, asegúrese de que duerma lo suficiente la noche anterior a la prueba. Permita suficiente tiempo por las mañanas cuando se le administren las pruebas para que su hijo desayune sin prisas. Muestre interés, pero no ponga demasiado énfasis en esta prueba; un niño ansioso no dará su mejor desempeño. Si su hijo está enfermo, no lo envíe a la escuela.
